Safety

Sulphates

  • All our products are free from sulphates.
  • Some people find sulphate containing products irritating or strip too much natural oil or dye from their hair, the most common culprit being SLS. None of our products contain SLS or any other true chemical sulphates.
  • You might see Behentrimonium Methosulfate (BTMS) on the label. This is not a sulphate but a methosulphate derived from rapeseed oil which has a different chemical property to sulphates and therefore does not behave in the same way. In fact, it is a fantastic conditioning ingredient that helps keep your hair smooth and tangle-free!

Salicylic acid

We don’t use any preservatives that contain salicylic acid due to the regulatory restrictions on using this with children under the age of 3. Although our products aren’t marketed at young children, having a young family means we know what they are like and we don’t want little grabby hands getting hold of something containing salicylic acid!

Phthalates and Parabens

All our fragrance oils are free from phthalates and all our preservatives are free from parabens.

Phthalates

  • Phthalates are group of synthetic chemicals that have been linked to a concerning range of medical issues so, not surprisingly, many people choose to avoid them completely.
  • In bath and body products from other manufacturers, a phthalate called Diethyl phthalate (DEP) may be present in fragrance oils to increase the longevity of the scent. You won’t see it on their label as DEP, if it’s present it would be as a component of “Parfum” which is the same labelling as for DEP-free fragrance oils that we use in our WilderISCA range.
  • We understand these concerns so all our fragrance oils (Parfum on the label) are free from phthalates.

Parabens

  • Parabens are a group of synthetic chemicals that can be used as a preservative is some cosmetic formulations.
  • Some people are concerned about a possible link between parabens and breast cancer following a study published in 2004, although this conclusion has been strongly disputed in the scientific community.
  • Parabens have been deemed safe in cosmetics products at the maximum authorised concentration in the US and the EU.
  • However, we do understand some people are still concerned and so all our preservatives are free from parabens.
